Kurisu Makise from Steins;Gate

Kotobukiya Kurisu Makise from Steins;Gate Figure Review

And back to figures. Feels like a while since I’ve reviewed a figure. Remind me not to do an eroge review with that level of detail again. It felt good to take pictures again after taking a break. It’s kinda like when you have a good-ass porno that you really like and you watch the hell out of it, and after a while it becomes much less exciting and you can’t use it anymore, but then you stop watching it and later on, you view it again and it’s as good as you remember. Hmm, what were we talking about again? Oh yes, a figure, we have a figure here. Let’s take a look at it.

Preorder Outlook VII

I like to do preorder posts every three months or so, and as it’s been exactly three months since my last such post, today is an auspicious day to write one up. While putting this list together, I was surprised to find that there aren’t any Alter figures that I’m looking forward to that I didn’t list in the previous post, and that there are five Good Smile Company figures in the list despite me having not bought a single figure that GSC released this year thus far. There’s not a single Max Factory PVC figure in the list either, though as they seem to mainly do Figmas these days, that’s not too surprising. As usual, most of the pictures come from Hobby Search, my favorite figure store.

Sasami Sasasegawa from Little Busters!

Alter Sasami Sasasegawa from Little Busters! Figure Review

I guess it’s no shame to admit that I’m a typical shallow, hormone-driven male. When I assess a figure for purchase, I first judge it on whether I like the character but since I’m not familiar with most of the characters that are turned into figures, I mainly judge on looks. In this particular figure’s case, “looks” means panties. I know nothing about the character or where she comes from, but I know that she’s flashing her panties with a smile, and that’s enough to meet the requirements for my collection.

Kureha Touka from Shining Wind (Swimsuit Version)

Max Factory Kureha Touka Figure Review

At first, I wasn’t too enthused by Max Factory’s line of swimsuit-clad Shining Wind girls and I’m not really sure why. It’s a terrible thing when a man can’t get excited by cute underaged girls in tiny bikinis, however, and I finally decided that Kureha and Xecty had too much appeal to pass on them. It would’ve been cooler if they’d picked out some suits out of Dead or Alive Xtreme 2, though; Kureha looks pretty good here, but she’d be bangin’ in the Venus or Mach.

Leina from Queen’s Blade (NSFW)

Daiki Kougyou Leina from Queen's Blade Figure Review

Some might say that going into a fight in nothing but your panties isn’t very smart. Well, when your first fight is against a lady with acid for milk, it’s the only thing to do. I mean, anybody who’s seen Aliens knows what happens when you get splashed with acid while encased in body armor; you wind up getting your arm burned off after it goes right through the plating. Nah, when you’re fighting jelly demons and fire mages, less is definitely more when it comes to protective gear.

Kasumi Yashiro from Muv-Luv Alternative

Good Smile Company Kasumi Yashiro from Muv-Luv Alternative Figure Review

I’m not really big on collecting full sets of characters just for the sake of doing so. Oh sure, every now and then I see a set of figures that I like, but most of the time, I don’t feel much compulsion to get all the figures in a series if they aren’t each individually appealing. I’ve got three of Alter’s Ikkitousen figures but I’m missing Chouun, I’m missing one of Volks’s Super Robot Girls (uhh, the one with the horn sprouting from her forehead, I forget her name), and I’m missing Rei and Misato out of Kotobukiya’s 1/6 scale Eva girl lineup. I’ve had two of the three Muv-Luv figures that Good Smile Company produced for a while now, and as lolis aren’t really my thing, I wasn’t planning on buying Kasumi. However, BBTS had her on sale for thirty bucks and as I was planning on getting something else there, I decided to toss her in my cart. For thirty bones, I don’t mind getting a figure if she’s wearing a tight, shiny bodysuit. By the way, you’ll be seeing that something else that I bought in my next figure review, I think.

Compact Hog from Tsukasa Bullet

Yamato Compact Hog from Tsukasa Bullet Figure Review

Here’s another girl with a gun. This used to be a staple of anime, but seems to have fallen out of favor with the zeitgeist and I can’t understand why. Maybe firearms aren’t moe? I dunno. I don’t even know what moe is, anyway. Jun Tsukasa’s art definitely ain’t moe, but I suppose if he tried to do something in the archetypical moe style, it’d look something like this girl here.

Darth Talon from Star Wars: Legacy

Darth Talon from Star Wars Legacy Figure Review

Having been born in 1980, I was a little too young to get into Star Wars. I vaguely remember getting my dad kicked out of the movie theatre by crying during The Empire Strikes Back, and I think I remember liking the Ewoks (thus proving what a dumb kid I was), but I never had any Star Wars toys or a lunch box, and I never saw any of the original trilogy movies in their entirety until their re-release back in the 90s. I was much more of a Star Trek fan, those movies being released just as I was becoming old enough to appreciate movies. I never got into the whole Star Wars versus Star Trek thing either, though; I mean, you got one franchise with green-skinned slave girls in bikinis, and the other offers red-skinned Sith in bikinis – with a particular badass example being Darth Talon – why choose between two beautiful things?

Fate T. Harlaown from Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS (Cobra Kai Version)

Cobra Kai Fate T. Harlaown from Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS Review

One day back in June, I woke up and went through my normal morning routine: brush my teeth, make lunch, and shut down every emotion but rage and spite in preparation for the drive to work. Before heading out the door, I checked my e-mail, checked Statcounter, and loaded up Moeyo. Then I saw this figure. Treasure Festa was in full swing and Cobra Kai was showing off their rendition of Fate T. Harlaown. It looked so unusual that I had to think for a moment whether I liked it or not – Toshirou’s sculpts are sort of eccentric, and they’re not something that everyone is gonna love. I’ve got a couple of his figures – chained-up Kanu and gangsta lean Saber – and I like them a lot, so I decided that this version of Fate was pretty dang cool. Plus, Toshirou’s circle is called Cobra Kai. How cool is that, that they named themselves after the villains that brutalized Daniel-san? Sweep the leg … do you have a problem with that?

Figure Picture Wallpaper

I spent most of this weekend working on site stuff, but unfortunately none of it involved photography or writing so my next review will have to keep for a few days. In the meantime I collected some pictures that I liked and processed them in wallpaper size.
