Dakimakura Review – Pretty Girl Knight from the Art of Nakajou (NSFW)

%3 Figure Review

I have to admit that one of my favorite themes in pop culture is the scantily-clad female fighter. It’s not as common a motif as it used to be, I think, which is sort of unfortunate, but it can still be found in anime properties like Queen’s Blade or video games like Code of Princess, which I sadly doubt I’ll ever get to play, given my general bias against handheld systems (though I do actually own a PSP, purchased mainly to play Persona 3 Portable, but I’ve since lost the UMD somewhere). It’s never been a frequent theme in dakimakura cover artwork, though, so when I saw this pillowcase, my interest was piqued straight away.

Dakimakura Review – Inori Yuzuriha from Guilty Crown (Evening Call Version) (NSFW)

Inori Yuzuriha Dakimakura Review

Guilty Crown is often compared to shows like Neon Genesis Evangelion and Code Geass, but regardless of their parallels in plot structure, characterization, and themes, it seems clear that it is not their equal when it comes to merchandising power. Evangelion’s popularity needs no commentary, and Code Geass just got this pretty awesome dakimakura cover from Movic, but while Guilty Crown came in riding a wave of hype and anticipation, it now seems to be the show that everyone wants to forget. I had thought that Good Smile Company or someone would show a few Guilty Crown figures at the recent Wonder Festival, but I don’t recall seeing any – not even Figmas (quite surprising, being that the bar to get a Figma is set pretty low). On the plus side, Azone’s big-ass Inori doll is looking pretty. Also on the plus side, lead girl Inori Yuzuriha and some of her castmates were popular subjects for dakimakura cover artists, as we see here.

Dakimakura Review – Fate T. Harlaown from Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS (Evening Call Version) (NSFW)

Fate T. Harlaown Dakimakura Review

While I enjoy taking pictures of the figures that I buy, I’m a collector like everyone else in this hobby, and one of the things that I enjoy doing is finding stuff featuring characters that I like, particularly if it is created by artists whose work I admire. To that end, I’ve been searching for the right Fate pillowcase for a while. At first, it doesn’t seem like it should be that difficult an endeavor; Fate is, of course, one of the most popular anime characters out there, and she can be seen on a number of dakimakura covers. For me, though, the right Fate pillowcase depicts her in her adult form, which rules out a number of pillowcases from the start, and it also depicts her in her Shin Sonic uniform – you’d think that wouldn’t be an obstacle, but for some reason, it’s not a popular look for her, at least on dakimakura covers. I thought that the HOP-produced pillowcase by Briest would be the one, but some nasty and unexpected mosaic censoring drops it in my esteem. A few months ago, this one popped up on Evening Call’s website. Is it the right one?

Dakimakura Review – Kimi Aoi from Horizon on the Middle of Nowhere (NSFW)

Kimi Aoi Dakimakura Review

The last few dakimakura covers featured here have been mostly of rather young-looking, physically-undeveloped characters, so to speak, so this time we’ll look at a pillowcase depicting a full-grown lady. This character is Kimi Aoi, the older sister of Toori Aoi, the lead male character of the light novel and recently-concluded anime series Horizon on (or in) the Middle of Nowhere. Although the anime seems reasonably popular – surely due in no small part to its attractive and expansive cast of colorful, likeable characters – it hasn’t gotten a lot of love from the figure industry. That’s rather unfortunate, since I really like the character designs and they would lend themselves well to figures. However, we’ll talk more about the anime and the few figures it has spawned later on; for now, let’s take a closer look at this dakimakura cover.

Dakimakura Review – Mizuho Makihara from Loli & Bondage (NSFW)

Mizuho Makihara Dakimakura Review

Happy holidays to everyone who celebrates holidays during this time of the year. It’s a busy time, with travel, shopping, and relaxation on everybody’s schedule, so I’m going to sneak in a review of this dakimakura cover while nobody is paying attention. It features an original character named Mizuho Makihara, a young girl who clearly knows how to have a good time.

Dakimakura Review – Inori Yuzuriha from Guilty Crown (NSFW)

Inori Yuzuriha Dakimakura

Inori Week continues here with a look at this pillowcase by the circle A.C.G.. That’s the same circle that produced the Catherine dakimakura cover, but while that one was drawn by as109, this one is drawn by an artist named sola (not to be confused with the manga and anime series of the same name). Looking at the circle’s products, it looks like sola has drawn the majority of them and I would guess he or she is its main artist. I came across this dakimakura cover while shopping at Doujin-dou and though I was unfamiliar with the artist’s work, I decided this was the Inori pillowcase for me.

Dakimakura Review – Yukikaze Mizuki from Taimanin Yukikaze (NSFW)

Yukikaze Mizuki from Taimanin Yukikaze dakimakura

Happy Black Friday to everyone. Being the day after Thanksgiving, the intention for today was to do a figure review of a character from an absolute turkey of a show (free drumstick to anyone who can guess which one I’m talking about), but that plan has been pushed aside by the usual holiday business. We’ll look at her in a few days but in the meantime, here’s some pictures of Lilith’s dakimakura cover of Yukikaze Mizuki, one of the newest characters in the long-running Taimanin series. We’ll also talk a bit about some other hentai stuff coming out soon.

Dakimakura Review – Catherine & Katherine from Catherine (NSFW)

Catherine Dakimakura

My plan to take some figure pictures this weekend has been foiled by an irritatingly persistent case of the flu, and since I get more questions about dakimakura covers than anything else, we’ll take a look at another pillowcase today. This one depicts Catherine and Katherine, the leading ladies of the video game, uhh, Catherine.

Dakimakura Review – Tony Taka Girls from Puella (NSFW)

Tony Taka Dakimakura from Puella

Today’s dakimakura cover features the artwork of Tony Taka, an illustrator who needs no introduction. A number of pillowcases have been produced that feature his work; in fact, the very first dakimakura cover review posted here was one of his, from Comiket 75. His doujin work often focuses on well-known characters – he’s published work based on Clannad, Stellvia, and Working!!, among other series – but this one includes a couple of girls who, as far as I know, are original characters. Also, I don’t know if either girl has a name, as the doujinshi they come from – titled Puella – features only a few pages of text. Incidentally, the product description of Puella states that its title simply comes from the Latin word for “girl”; it has no relation at all to the well-known anime series Puella Magi Madoka Magica.

Dakimakura Review – Nozomi Yuuki from Slave Bride (NSFW)

Nozomi Yuuki Dakimakura Header

A recent failed attempt at building a set and an ill-timed touch of the flu means that we’ll be looking at another pillowcase instead of a figure. This one is from the same circle and features a similar theme as Satsuki, but those who prefer anime characters to look a little more mature will probably appreciate this one more than the other.
