Volks Marie Mamiya from Starless Review

It’s yet another figure from an H-game. Looking at my traffic statistics, my ero-figure reviews are by far the most popular pages on this site. Here’s hoping that this review continues that fine tradition!

Volks Marie Mamiya from Starless Review

Marie Mamiya is a character from the upcoming erogame Starless from developer Empress and artist Sei Shoujo, the illustrator of Discipline and Bible Black, among others.

”Marie

I looked for some other pictures but nobody seems to know what’s up with Starless, as its release date has been pushed back time and again. The people on Hongfire are taking a resigned, fatalistic view of the game, having come to terms with the fact that they may not play this game in their lifetimes.

This figure is yet another prepainted kit from E2046’s Gathering lineup. Marie does come with several clothing options: a rather skanky minidress and a couple of brassieres, one in black and one in transparent plastic. I wanted to take pictures of Marie dolled up in her array of fashion options, but after the paint kept rubbing off on her skin, I decided not to bother. I know that none of you really want to see her clothed, anyway.

She comes with E2046’s usual spiffy set of magnets which clasp her clothing to her body. Unlike the other Gathering figures I own, she is separated into parts – to facilitate dressing her, her head and legs aren’t glued down. The fit is rather loose so I think I might glue her head and limbs; otherwise, they slip out very easily and show conspicuous gaps in the joint.

The original resin kit is by Volks in 1/6 scale, and their sculptors have done their usual fine job. I’m not sure that they completely nailed the likeness, but being that I know nothing about the character or the game, I suppose that’s not a big deal to me.

E2046’s painting is solid as usual. Well, there are a few faults, one being a bit of a splotch on her back. You can’t normally see it, being that she’s sitting in a chair, so that’s not a big deal to me either. Another problem is, as mentioned, how easily the paint on her clothing smudges her skin. Also, her mouth looks a bit strange from certain angles, particularly when looking up at her. I’m not sure if that’s a paint or sculpting issue. In general, though, the paintjob is great.

I happily admit that I bought this figure solely because I like how the character looks, and in that respect this is a pretty cool figure. Not really the most memorable or anything, but definitely appealing to those with no shame.

Speaking of having no shame, I know what drives traffic to this site, and I’m counting on the next picture to help me out on that score. Google Images, don’t let me down!

    see you..

    Pd. Chocolate is energy

  2. Guy says:

Hm. For colour smudging off, I don’t know how figure painters paint, cause I come from the miniature world, but shouldn’t they use 1-3 layers of varnish (satin or matte, probably), as sealer, which ensures that the colour will neither smudge, nor will the figure’s paintjob be easily chipped by say, a fingernail?

Once one finishes painting a miniature, one uses a sealer.

  3. Otaku Dan says:

that is a sexy figure. I really like the gathering line that E2046 has, I should buy one in the future

Yeah, that’s one unfortunate thing is that the drawers don’t come off. You know, re-reading my review I think my words come off as a bit lukewarm, but I do like this figure a lot.

I have zero experience building figure kits but I don’t think a protective clear coat is often used, since (I have read) it alters the gloss (or flatness) of the paint. I guess figures aren’t handled as much as miniatures, too, so it might not be as necessary except in odd cases such as this where parts can be removed or added.

    >> Otaku Dan
You should! I haven’t been disappointed yet in any of their figures.

This figure is really hot !

  6. That’s some serious crowd-pleasing. Good job!

  7. Wolfheinrich says:

I have noticed this figure as well, just not exactly my style of play. I think I prefer Kotone better :3

  8. Jem says:

hahaha, sex definitely sells. I really wanted to go and get the Volks kit and paint it myself. She is so hot and Volks is so damn evil. I know that E2046 was offering it up for preorder, but I try to support the primary source inasmuch as possible.

I aim to please! I know what my viewers want.

    >> Wolfheinrich
I passed on her the first time around. When they got a couple more in stock, though, I was like, “Ehh, what the hell” and bought her.

    >> Jem
Yeah, I’d rather buy an official version if I could. I do have a few Volks PVC figures and the quality is not quite as good as one might hope for. Nonetheless, if they ever do get into the mass-production figure business (not to mention joining the international market), they’d probably be up there with Alter as the manufacturers I’d most frequently buy from.

love that last photo there. good shot!

  11. Blowfish says:

What? The design is by the same dude who did Bible Black?
I totally hated the design of the characters in BB but this one looks quite good 😛

The last picture turned out really nice looks like techer and student will have a long detention

  12. Tier says:

Ha! My plan is working out perfectly!

I’m glad that Volks took some liberties with how they sculpted the resin kit; it’s a lot better than the source artwork I think (particularly being that the HCG pictures sorta, err, overemphasize the effect of gravity on boobs).

  13. Guy says:

You know, it does alter the flatness, but that’s something you need to aim for. Like, using shinier colours and then using matte varnish, or using satin varnish, which is usually considered the least intrusive, neutral.

  14. Lylibellule says:

    Nice shot!
    You created a cordial environment.

  15. Tier says:

Oh wow, the game actually has a release date now. Thanks for the links! Marie seems to have quite the unconventional beauty treatment routine.

  16. Dean says:

    I want her,i need her,alas never seen one i can afford…..
