While Asuka has to be content with the odd figure here and there, there is no dearth of Rei Ayanami figures. You can get renditions of Evangelion’s taciturn bluehead dolled up in casualwear, swimsuits, a shoulderless race queen bodysuit, and of course, her iconic plugsuit.
Like Asuka, Alter’s first Rei figure comes in 1/5 scale. Unlike Asuka, Rei needs her base to sit up straight. Years of sedentariness have put an unsightly yellowish stain on her backside. Paint is generally good, although her skin tone is somewhat corpse-like and her lone eyeball looks odd from certain angles.
The sculpt is particularly nice, with her drawn-up legs, her worried expression, and her bandaged eye evoking pathos in the viewer. I particularly like how her hanging arm accentuates her detachment from her surroundings.
As I write that, I realize for the first time that her arm and hand look a bit like she’s performing the male masturbation gesture. And now I can’t get that image out of my head. You know what, I’m going to stop writing now. Right now, before my brains get too polluted by filthy, immoral, lascivious thoughts.
